Little Joe's Farmstead

401 Highway 377 S, Argyle, TX 76226

Tue–Sat: 7 AM – 7 PM  ·  Sun–Mon: 7 AM – 2 PM  ·  littlejoesfarmstead.com

We stumbled onto Little Joe's Farmstead the way we find a lot of our favorite places — someone mentioned it, we looked it up, and we were in the car twenty minutes later. It's in Argyle, right off Highway 377, and it has quickly become one of our go-to spots in the DFW area. Great food, a beautiful setting, and a story behind it that makes you feel genuinely good about being there.

The Story Behind It

Owner Jim Reid's son was diagnosed with leukemia as a toddler. Jim saw firsthand the hardships families go through during that kind of fight, and years later he decided to do something about it. Every meal at Little Joe's Farmstead directly supports pediatric cancer families. If you want to read more about the story, it's worth a few minutes of your time — littlejoesfarmstead.com.

The Setting

From the road it looks like nothing — a plain building off Highway 377 that you'd honestly drive right past. Walk in and it's a completely different story. Bright white, high ceilings, wicker chairs, long farm tables, and fresh flowers everywhere. It feels like someone took a Napa Valley farmhouse and quietly dropped it into North Texas. We loved it immediately.

One of the little things that stuck with us: every table has a tray of specialty condiments — Graza olive oil, black truffle oil, Cholula, Tabasco, Melinda's green sauce. It's a small touch, but it says something about how much thought goes into this place. You order at the counter, grab a number, and find your table. Jim, the owner, is usually out on the floor — he's the kind of person who makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit.

The Grounds: More Than Just a Restaurant

This place is more than a restaurant. Walk the property and you'll find a covered greenhouse walkway lined with plants and string lights, a brick patio with wicker chairs and a big American flag, an outdoor ice cream shop called The Scoop, and a dog bar where four-legged guests are genuinely celebrated. There's even a children's daycare on-site. It's the kind of place you could spend a whole afternoon wandering around.

What We Ordered

We stopped in recently and had a wonderful meal. I went for breakfast and ordered the Baker's Sandwich — flavorful, satisfying, and made with quality ingredients. It came with a croissant, roasted potatoes, and fresh berries on the side. The coffee deserves its own mention: it comes in a cup so generously sized that photos genuinely don't do it justice. It's a proper, deeply satisfying cup that pairs perfectly with the food.

Michael had the Oxbow Sourdough Burger for lunch — a thick, well-seasoned patty on toasted Partin sourdough with aged Swiss cheese, Zoe's bacon, lettuce, and tomato. He had the lightly seasoned grilled mushrooms left off (mushrooms are a hard no for him, which I will never fully understand), but the burger was a hit regardless. The garlic fries on the side were exceptional — crispy, well-seasoned, and the kind of fries that make you forget you were going to share them.

One small note: the bottom of Michael's bun was a bit soggy on this visit. Minor thing, didn't take away from how much we enjoyed the meal, but worth knowing if you're someone who likes a crispy bun all the way through.

"The Greek lemon chicken soup is the best one I've had. Great coffee, but the iced green tea drink was a huge hit. A fun environment, lots of people having birthdays and still Texas friendly with everyone saying hello to each other."

Tips & Tricks

1

Counter service — order at the front, grab a number, and find your table. Water and iced tea are self-serve.

2

Dogs are not just allowed — they're celebrated. The patio and dog bar are made for them.

3

Portions are huge. Multiple reviewers report taking half their meal home. Plan accordingly.

4

The cinnamon rolls sell out. If you see them available, don't hesitate.

5

Soft drinks come in individual bottles at the table, not fountain. Some reviewers prefer this; others don't. Just know going in.

6

The greenhouse walkway and outdoor patio are worth a stroll even if you're eating inside.

7

Ask about the tip jar — there's a story behind it that's worth hearing.

8

The Scoop ice cream shop is on the property. Save room.

The Verdict

It's the kind of place that's easy to recommend to anyone: families with kids, couples looking for a relaxed lunch, groups celebrating a birthday, or solo diners who just want a great cup of coffee and something made with care.

We'll be back soon to work through more of the menu — the Greek lemon chicken soup and the Alys Beach Sandwich are both on the list. If you're in the Denton County area and haven't been, make the drive. It's worth it.
